When first I heard about Harry Potter, I assumed that I would not like it. I based this assumption mostly on the fact that what most people find so popular, I generaly find rather dull. Particularly children's fads - I have nightmares about the Power Rangers to this day... And Harry Potter was getting quite popular.
My interest was stirred a bit when schools started banning the books. For, as one near and dear to us once commented, the best way to ensure everyone does something is to forbid it. Still, I was not drawn in.
Then one fine day, I was bored out of my skull, and my sister handed me The Sorcerer's Stone. Caving under the pressure, I choked down my revoltion of the hype surrounding the books, and began to read. I got sucked in by the cat reading a map... And the rest is, as they say, history.
The books are aimed at a young audience, but the story is a compeling one, appealing to all ages. I am not in the least embarassed to say I am totaly addicted to Harry Potter!
This is my small tribute to Harry Potter, a story which has wormed its way up the ranks of my favorite books. And I've read more than a few... |
Book | Extreme Summation |
---|---|
Sorcerer's Stone | A powerfully dark wizard, Lord Voldemort, presumed dead (or, at the very least, powerless) shows signs of stirring just as 11 year old Harry Potter starts his first year at Hogwart's. |
Chamber of Secrets | A young "copy" of Voldemort, preserved in a diary, wrecks havoc when the book is returned to Hogwarts. |
Prizoner of Azkaban | A follower of Voldemort, in hiding these many years, returns to his master. |
Goblet of Fire | With the help of his two most faithfull followers, Lord Voldemort manages to regain a physical form. |
Order of the Phoenix | Refusing to accept the return of Voldemort, the wizarding world ridicules those who proclaim the truth and force Dumbledor to start a secret resistance. |
Half Blood Prince | Still thinking lol |
